Dr. Arata’s background is in Interventional Radiology.  After years of seeing chronically ill patients, he decided he would serve people better by preventing these illnesses, rather than treating them in a crisis situation.  He believes these illnesses can be prevented when he and his patients work together as partners to gain control of their own health and create a long, disease-free future.  Dr. Arata works to ensure that the brain, as well as the gut bacteria are in strong and working order to facilitate optimal health.  The American diet is not what it should be and is the reason so many Americans are unhealthy.  Dr. Arata is passionate about teaching patients how to be their own health advocates and how to use food, exercise, and lifestyle to be vital human beings.

Michael Arata MD graduated from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine in 1994. He completed residency training at Duke University in 1999. In 2000 he returned to California after a fellowship at the Hospital for the University of Pennsylvania. He works in Newport Beach, CA and specializes in Metabolic and Functional Medicine. Dr. Arata is board certified in Radiology with added qualification in Interventional Radiology. He is also board certified in Venous and Lymphatic Medicine. He founded California’s largest outpatient based Interventional Radiology group and spent a decade specializing in limb salvage. While saving countless legs from amputation he yearned for a way to help these patients before their feet hit the end of the road. Functional Medicine allowed him to pursue his dream of preventing the need for invasive, limb salvaging procedures. He is the worlds first Interventional Radiologist certified in Functional Medicine.
